Since 1961, Weather Routing, Inc. (WRI) has specialized in providing forecast and routing advice for commercial shipping fleets. Our goal is to provide your vessels with the safest and most efficient route possible, saving both time and bunkers. We continuously analyze global weather patterns and provide each vessel with an optimal route and forecast wind and sea conditions expected during each voyage.

WRI Forecasts are individually prepared, based on the specific location and route of the vessel. Our objective is to keep the Master fully aware of any weather systems that may affect the vessel, and to communicate our routing recommendations with the Master as professional guidance for a fast and safe transit.

All of our forecasts are continuously reviewed and evaluated for optimal routing decisions. Please see our Optimal Routing Case for an example of the benefits of our routing services. Our team of meteorologists can be contacted for consultation at any time, day or night (24 hours a day, 365 days a year).

WRI has developed an exclusive heavy weather monitoring program for your fleet. Our team of experienced Marine Meteorologists monitor your fleet around the clock...we enter the vessel's upcoming voyage itinerary and daily positions into our database, and advise when we see any upcoming heavy weather or tropical threats.

Our team of Marine Meteorologists have the tools to predict heavy weather or tropical events well before they impact your vessel(s). When we are expecting heavy weather to affect a vessel (based on your own given wind/sea constraints), we will commence our full forecast and routing services, in order to minimize/avoid the heavy weather.

Additionally, for a very reasonable fee, we supply your vessels our exclusive Weather Forecast Charts, which can be provided every day or every-other day, depending on your needs. The forecast charts can extend out to 180 hours, with the ships dead-reckoned on the maps, and are an excellent tool to keep the Master and land-based staff aware of any upcoming weather issues.

Tropical Systems are often a mariner's worst nightmare. At times, their movements can be erratic, and they can strengthen from a weak Tropical Depression into a full fledged Tropical Cyclone within a very short period of time. Available information can often be conflicting, especially in data-void regions of the globe. Who can you trust to keep your vessels safe from Tropical Threats?

WRI's team of experienced Tropical Meteorologists have been forecasting, analyzing, and monitoring these systems for over 50 years. We have all the tools and knowledge necessary to accurately predict the strength and track of Tropical Systems in any region around the globe. WRI keeps constant surveillance on all tropical regions across the globe, and keeps you and your vessels aware of any possible "trouble-spots".

If we detect a developing Tropical Low, WRI will begin issuing track and intensity forecasts immediately, often days ahead of advisories issued by official government agencies. This lead time has proven to be a significant advantage for our clients in the past when it comes to avoiding a potential tropical disaster. WRI will recommend a safe route which avoids the Tropical System, and minimizes associated heavy weather, while always maintaining the fastest possible ETA.
