Obtaining reliable weather and routing information is always a must when trying to gain a competitive edge, and that’s where WRI comes in. Our experienced staff of forecasters can meet your needs, providing routing and forecast information for any race, during any time of year.
As with our traditional yacht forecast services, we provide a detailed synopsis of current and forecast weather conditions, as well as forecast wind and sea conditions. We also provide precise information on currents and other weather phenomena which may affect your route. Whether it’s beam winds of 15-20kts or following winds of 20-25 knots, we are always mindful of what winds and seas are most suitable for you and we tailor our route recommendations to your individual vessel. Once we take everything into consideration, we suggest the optimal routing for you to achieve the best possible speed, getting you to your destination as quickly and as safely as
possible.
Here are just a few of the past races WRI meteorologists have participated
in:
Trans-Pacific Yacht Race
Newport - Bermuda Race
Chicago Yacht Club Race to Makinac
Pineapple Cup – Montego Bay Race
Lexus Newport to Ensenada Race
Saveke Global Circumnavigation
Typically, race outlooks are prepared several weeks in advance. However, commencement of services is always at your discretion, our forecasters can work within any timetable. Five days prior to the race, we can begin providing more detailed forecasts for the race, and daily forecasts will keep the Captain and crew well informed about the weather situation until the day of the race.
If rules allow, our forecasts can continue during the race, providing the Captain and crew with the latest information on race conditions. We keep you under constant surveillance by closely monitoring race conditions based on current conditions. If weather conditions dictated a more beneficial routing plan, we would immediately contact and recommend one to the
vessel.
Weather maps can be provided to give a good visual aid to our clients, detailing significant weather features that will play a role in route planning. These maps cover time periods from current surface analyses to forecast maps out to 120 hrs, and are available at a nominal fee to you.
Additionally, a climatological study of the region allows you to plan well in advance based on typical weather patterns and currents.
With WRI’s expertise at your fingertips, you can be rest assured that you will have the best weather information available, providing an edge on the competition, while safely guiding you to your destination.
